Another day passed slowly as a lone thestral wandered to the edge of the forest. Through the clearing, he could see the grounds of Hogwarts in the new lands. Its appearance was similar to what it had seen in his old home, at least from the outside, though he would have to travel for many moons and over vast waters to return there. The lake glistened in the distance, and the great castle stood on the hill nearby, dignified and unchanging, as though it had been swept away and hidden by a unseen force before its destruction. Of course it wasn't so simple as that, and tireless efforts had been made by the new Headmaster and many others to restore it to what it is today.
He wondered how much longer it would be before the seasons would change and the paths and fields would be filled with students again. It felt unnatural... almost unnerving to see them so empty, and the skies so clear of the owls that frequented them. He felt reminded of the great war that had taken place... the smells of blood and smoke had filled the air that day. Seeing the grounds as they are now, you would hardly know it happened at all...
Suddenly, his memories shattered as the scent of fresh blood further filled his nostrils from far within the thicket behind him. Though the grounds were quiet, the forest was lively as ever, and the desire to hunt consumed him. With little more sound than a gust of wind, he quickly turned around and vanished into the foliage in pursuit.
